 Tree Sales

Logan SWCD conducts an annual tree sale with orders due during  January, February and early March of each year.  The trees are bare root seedlings that are usually 1-2 years old. We only sell trees that are well adapted to the growing conditions in our area.   Tree sale order forms can be found on this site during the sale months. Click on the link below to view the brochure of the trees we have to offer. Please note that payment is required at the time of order and we do not accept credit or debit cards.

Backyard Conservation

Backyard Conservation is what you can do at your own home to help wildlife by providing habitat and help the environment by reducing non-point source pollution to our streams and rivers.  Check out the following links to learn more about it.

Backyard Lawn Care Practices Promoting Soil Conservation and Protection of Water Resources

How we care for our lawn determines the degree of the environmental benefit and impact we achieve.

Lawns and the Environment

Lawns and the Environment” is an outreach and education program targeting anyone with a lawn. Developed by the Ohio Federation of Soil & Water Conservation Districts, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the National Association of Conserva-tion Districts in collaboration with The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, these recommendations not only help protect our environment, they also save time and resources. Best management practices include proper mowing, grass clipping and leaf management, soil and water conservation and nutrition.

Wetlands

Wetlands are a very important part of our landscape here in Logan County and across the country. They are natures way of filtering contaminants such as sediment, road salt, fertilizer, and pesticide before they reach our rivers and streams. Ohio has lost a 90% of its wetlands due to development and agricultural drainage.  The Logan SWCD provides technical assistance to landowners who wish to restore or create new wetlands on their property. There are also cost share programs available through NRCS and Logan Farm Service Agency. Please contact us for  more information.

 Ponds

Logan SWCD is available to conduct soil investigations for landowners who are interested in constructing ponds on their property. For a soils investigation, the landowner will need to provide an excavator who can dig test holes for us while we are on site. We will examine the soil from the test holes to determine if it is suitable for pond construction. Soils high in clay content make the best pond sites whereas soils high in silt, sand and gravel make poor pond sites. Please call our office well in advance so we schedule a time for the site visit.
