What is Adoption?
Adoption is a legal and an emotional process in which a parent and child relationship
is created between an adult (the adoptive parent) and a child. The legal authority
to grant petitions for adoption rests with the Logan County Probate Court.
What is Children's Services Role in Adoption?
The primary responsibility of Logan County Children's Services is to find the most
appropriate parents for every child who is legally free for adoption.
Every child has a right to a permanent, loving environment with parents who provide
good physical care, emotional security, medical care, an education, and protection of
the child's rights.
This separation of a child from their biological family and subsequent placement for
adoption requires utmost care and in-depth study. Prior to a person or a couple
applying to adopt a child, they must complete a series of training classes which will
provide information on the adoption process and provide insight on issues related to
adoption.
One of the most important traits for a prospective adoptive parent is to have the
ability to accept the child as they are and as they will be.
